In late October, he was convicted for tax fraud and had said on several occasion that he wont run for candidacy again.
“I’m running to win,” he said, saying he took his decision “out of a sense of responsibility” for Italy and because his centre-right People of Liberty party had been unable to find an alternative “recognised” leader since his resignation as prime minister in November last year.
